William F. Brown Jr. Scholarship established

BATAVIA – The Jerome Foundation has established a scholarship to commemorate the late William F. Brown Jr., the Batavia author, broadcaster and journalist who died Nov. 29 at age 91.

The annual $1,000 award will be given to a high school senior living in and graduating from a school in Genesee Country who intends to earn a four-year degree in journalism, communications or public relations.

Applications are available at the guidance offices in the county’s nine high schools or by emailing Martha Spinnegan at the Jerome Foundation at Deadline for applications is May 8.

Brown was former owner of radio station WBTA, a longtime correspondent for The Buffalo News, a frequent contributor to The Batavia Daily News and author of several books on Genesee County history. He also was president of the board of directors of the former St. Jerome Hospital and a charter member of the Jerome Foundation.
