Dynabrade Inc., the Clarence-based manufacturer of industrial abrasive power tools, has purchased an Illinois maker of pneumatic abrasive power tools, expanding its product line and its distribution abilities.
“We are very excited about the acquisition,” said Colin F. Brogan, the company’s vice president of operations. “We believe we’re going to become an even stronger company for it.”
Brogan said that although National Detroit’s operations will move to Clarence, he is not yet sure how many new jobs will be added to the local workforce, which is currently 175.
Terms of the sale were not released.
National Detroit, located in Rockford, Ill., makes random orbital and gear-driven sanders, buffers, polishers, grinders and related accessories serving customers in automotive, industrial, marine, solid surface and woodworking markets for 76 years.
Dynabrade supplies tools to customers through a worldwide network of professional distributors. It employs 270 people worldwide. Brogan said business is fluctuating, especially in Europe, where the currency has fallen. But sales are up by “double digits” across the United States, Canada and Mexico, he said.
“The key driver of business is right here in the U.S.,” he said. “We are doing well.”
