Bulls No. 1: The University at Buffalo men’s outdoor track & field team sits first in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Regional ranking, ahead of regional foes Cornell, Connecticut and Syracuse. UB ranks 43rd nationally.
The Bulls tallied 585.15 points in the Week Three poll. Leading the region is Mike Morgan in the decathlon and Jonathan Jones in the shot put. Austin Ashby is second in the long jump and Austin Price ranked second in the triple jump. Sitting third is Ryan Billian in the 200 meters,, Morgan in the high jump and Devon Patterson (Williamsville South) in the shot put. The Bulls will compete in the Penn Relays Thursday through Sunday and the Cornell Big Red Invitational on Sunday.
UB signs three track stars: Three male track and field/cross country athletes from New York State have signed National Letters of Intent with the University at Buffalo, head coach and teams director Vicki Mitchell announced Tuesday. Dan Muldoon of Liverpool was a finalist in the Nike Team national Cross Country meet, a top 10 finisher in the State Federation cross-country run and a state finalist in the indoor 600 meters.
Dan “is going to continue the tradition of middle and distance excellence at UB,” Mitchell said.
Hasani Rathan of William Floyd High in Mastic Beach is the reigning state champion in the high jump with a personal best of 6-feet, 10 inches.
Alex Siracusa of Churchville-Chili High near Rochester owns a personal best of 23 feet, ¼ inch in the long jump.
Bona golfer honored: St. Bonaventure freshman Corey Long earned Atlantic 10 golf rookie-of-the-week honors after shooting rounds of 76 and 72 and placing 37th at the Greenbrier (W. Va.) Intercollegiate. He has been so honored three times, the first two during the fall season. Long, from McDonald, Pa., has a 77.7 stroke average over 24 rounds.
