Steven J. Giardina, of Lancaster, a retired bakery supervisor, died Saturday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a two-year illness. He was 72.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Burgard Vocational High School and attended the University at Buffalo. He served in the Air Force as a firefighter.
Mr. Giardina began his career in the bread business at the age of 16, working for his mother’s family at Costanzo’s Bakery.
He then became a sales representative for Wonder Bread, advanced to sales manager, then was promoted to supervisor at the Wonder Bread-Hostess bakery on Fougeron Street and continued as supervisor at the Elma bakery. He retired in 1984.
He received several awards and honors for his work in sales and as a supervisor.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Christine A. Wozniak; two daughters, Stephanie Haberl and Lisa Dlugosz; his twin sister, Phyllis Clark; a brother, Anthony Sr.; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 5271 Clinton St., Elma.
