Daniel N. Csizmar, an active volunteer in Kenmore and Tonawandas

June 9, 1941 – April 16, 2015

WHEATFIELD – Daniel N. Csizmar, 73, an active member of his church and community groups, died Thursday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Csizmar was born in North Tonawanda and graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1958. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo in 1964.

He worked in sales and marketing for INA Insurance from 1965 to 1978 and then at Billings Insurance in Niagara Falls from 1978 until 1993. He worked for Lawley Services from 1993 until his retirement in 2006.

Mr. Csizmar served five years in the 107th Air National Guard Unit in Niagara Falls and served on active duty in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was honorably discharged and rose to the rank of sergeant.

He was a parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church in the Town of Tonawanda and served as an usher and counter. He twice served as president of the Holy Name Society and in 2002, received the Holy Name Diocesan Achievement Award.

Mr. Csizmar coached baseball and softball for the youth league at St. Andrew’s and was a member of the Holy Name Golf League. He chaired the church craft show for 17 years.

He also was a member of the Parents Guild of Sacred Heard Academy and the Parents Guild at St. Joseph Collegiate Institute.

Mr. Csizmar was a member of the Niagara Falls Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus Twin City Council 413 He was named Knights of Columbus “Knight of the Year” in 1981.

He started the Can Am Euchre Tournament and was chairman for 25 years. He also was a member of the former Kenmore Mercy Hospital Men’s Sustaining Society, serving as president in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Susan Jolley.

Survivors also include three daughters, Amy Csizmar Dalal, Laura Locker and Carrie Volpe; a son, Daniel P.; four brothers, John, the Rev. Richard, Nicholas and James; three sisters, Patricia Bacon, Mary Ann Behling and Diane Skomski; and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Andrew Church, 1525 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda.
