William J. Wiedeman, retired from Bethlehem Steel

William J. Wiedeman, of Williamsville, a retired Bethlehem Steel Corp. administrator, died Sunday in ElderWood at Williamsville after a long illness. He was 82.

Born in Buffalo, he attended St. Margaret’s Elementary School, Canisius High School and Canisius College, where he earned a degree in business and economics in 1954. He served in the Army as a private first class, stationed in Fort Knox, Ky.

Mr. Wiedeman had a 30-year career at Bethlehem Steel, retiring as coordinator of employee benefits in 1985. He was a member of the Bethlehem Steel Management Club.

A longtime North Buffalo resident, he was a member of the board of directors of Mount St. Mary Academy; a member of Thomas Tehan Post 1449, American Legion; and a volunteer for SABAH, the Skating Association for the Blind and Handicapped.

He enjoyed golf and camping and was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.

Survivors include his wife, the former Maureen Lawler; two daughters, Mary P. and Katie J. Giansante; a son, John J.; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, 1395 Hertel Ave.
