A loaded .38-caliber handgun was seized from a Springville woman as she tried to board a flight to Atlanta Monday afternoon at Buffalo-Niagara International Airport.
Transportation Security Administration officers and NFTA police said the handgun was found to have five bullets including one in the chamber. The weapon was detected in the woman’s purse when she walked through the airport checkpoint X-ray machine. The weapon was confiscated. NFTA spokesman C. Douglas Hartmeyer said both the NFTA Police and the FBI contacted the U.S. Attorney’s office in Buffalo about the weapon seizure “but they declined to prosecute” the woman. TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said the woman missed her flight but the gun incident had “no impact” on airport operations.
