A two-day blood drive is being held by a Cheektowaga man who needed multiple pints of blood during surgery last year.
Hosted by the American Red Cross, the drive is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday at its Hamburg Donation Center, 5161 Camp Road; and 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Buffalo Donation Center, 786 Delaware Ave.
Army Sgt. Adam Carabello needed 20 pints of blood last March because of a rare lesion that affected arteries in his stomach lining, causing him to bleed internally. He had eight hours of surgery to stop the bleeding.
“I never thought I was going to be the one who needed the help,” Carabello said. “I was very lucky because there were so many volunteers who stood up and answered the call to give, and because of them I am here today to say thank you.”
