Thomas E. Hourigan, of the Town of Tonawanda, a career Air National Guardsman, died unexpectedly March 20 in Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Fla., after a short battle with leukemia. He was 76.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and worked as a jet engine mechanic for Pan American Airlines from 1959 to 1967 and then served in the Navy.
Mr. Hourigan saw active duty in the Vietnam War with the Air National Guard and continued serving until 2002 as a jet engine mechanic. He attained the rank of master sergeant.
In retirement, he spent winters in Florida, where he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Andrea Letro; a son, Brian; two daughters, Kathleen Bumbalo and Carol Marien; three brothers, Donald, Robert and James; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be private.
