ROYALTON – A home on Gasport Road in the Town of Royalton was damaged by fire Sunday evening, Niagara County Sheriff’s officials reported.
Deputies arriving at the home Kenneth G. Hausrath, 67, of 4803 Gasport Road about 6:15 p.m. He said they were all in an upstairs bedroom when they noticed the smoke and fire. Deputies arrived to find dark smoke and flames on the northwest corner of the house in an area above the garage.
The Gasport Chemical Hose Company and Terry’s Corners Fire Company responded to extinguish the flames. Hausrath was home with his wife and three grandchildren at the time of the fire and they were all able to escape safely. A cat, which the homeowners were unable to remove, was rescued by fire personnel, officials said.
The estimate of damage has not been determined. The fire is under investigation by the Niagara County Origin and Cause Unit.
