Police seeking suspect in string of electronics thefts

LOCKPORT – A shoplifter who made off with over $1,600 in electronics from a Walmart on South Transit Road Saturday night, may be a suspect in electronics thefts from three other area stores over the past six days, according to the Niagara County Sheriff Department.

The unidentified man walked into a Walmart store at 5735 South Transit Road between 11 and 11:17 p.m. and put two HP desktop computers and a 50–inch television into a cart, left the store via a fire exit and drove off in an orange Ford Focus. The license plates were obscured on the car.

The theft was not discovered until the next day when store security reviewed its video surveillance.

The store security officer told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies that a male suspect matching his description and driving the same vehicle is a suspect in similar thefts in three other stores. All of the thefts happened between 11 p.m. and 1:30 a.m.

The suspect was described only as a white male wearing a white sweatshirt.
