New York Power Authority fishing piers will open for the season

LEWISTON – New York Power Authority fishing facilities, including the piers at the New York Power Authority’s Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant and at the Lewiston Reservoir and Water Intakes near the Upper Mountain Fire Company, will be open for the season next Monday, weather permitting. Admission is free and all are open from dawn to dusk.

The fish cleaning stations at both sites will also be open as long as the weather remains above freezing.

Parking is available at the Robert Moses Power Plant, near the pier and at the top of the hill, next to the roadway. The area has been updated to provide safer access to the pier for both vehicles and pedestrians. A new riverside walkway with a protective guard was also installed.

Additional improvements are scheduled this year. In late summer the handicapped access elevator will be out of service for replacement and the access ramp to the elevator will also be replaced. That small section of the pier will be closed to the public, but the remainder of the pier will be open to the public.

Also, because of ongoing repair work, the power producing unit closest to the pier will be out of service in the spring; however, the pier will be open and fishing will not be restricted.
