Lockport man arrested after robbery and stabbing

LOCKPORT – A man was robbed of cash and stabbed in the leg at an apartment building in the Town of Lockport, according to police.

Justin West, 34, reported the attack in an apartment building at 6604 Dysinger Road shortly before noon Sunday. West, who gave police the name of his assailant, was treated at Erie County Medical Center for a wound to his lower leg.

State Police and Niagara County sheriff’s deputies began searching for the alleged assailant, identified as Derrick Powell, 31. He eventually was found hiding in a closet at a nearby apartment building, authorities said.

Powell was charged with felony counts of robbery and assault, and a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Following arraignment before Lockport Town Justice Cheryl Antkowiak, Powell was sent to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. He’s scheduled to return to court Thursday afternoon.
