Canisius College extended its softball winning streak to six Monday by sweeping a doubleheader from Iona, 13-5 and 8-4, in New Rochelle. Canisius (12-9) is off to its first 4-0 start in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play since 2008. The win also ended a five-game losing streak to Iona since 2012.
In the opener came back from a 5-1 deficit, taking the lead for good with three runs in the sixth inning. Jessica Berzins, who went 3 for 3, homered for the first Griffs run. Canisius scored six times in the top of the first inning in the nightcap Freshman pitcher Erika Mackie posted her sixth win of the season for Canisius.
