ASHFORD – A Cattaraugus County man was killed Monday morning when his pickup collided with a log truck on Route 219 in the Town of Ashford.

George E. Peterson, 44, of Bowen Road in East Otto, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Peterson was driving south shortly before 7:30 a.m. when his pickup crossed the double yellow line into the path of a 2004 Peterbuilt log truck owned and operated by Scott Timothy, 43, of Coudersport, Pa., sheriff’s officials said.

The two trucks collided head on in the northbound lane. The log truck continued into the northbound ditch, while the pickup came to rest on the guardrail on the southbound lane.

No charges have been filed in the crash, officials said.

Timothy was taken to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital by Springville Ambulance and later released.
