Buffalo will host the first Startup Weekend event in the country dedicated to building closer ties between fledgling tech companies and the sports industry.
Buffalo Startup Weekend Sports! will be held May 1-3 at dig, the co-working space inside the Innovation Center on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
Buffalo Startup Weekend, part of the national Startup Weekend network, first was held in 2012 and is meant to encourage entrepreneurial activity in Buffalo. The May event will focus on new technologies in fantasy sports, big data, sports science and efforts to improve the in-game experience for fans.
Organizers said the event leverages the many professional and college sports teams in the Buffalo area as well as sports-related companies such as Pegula Sports and Entertainment, New Era Cap and Delaware North Sportservice.
