Trio charged with choking cabbie in robbery attempt

Three men accused of choking a cab driver during a robbery attempt over the weekend were later caught and arrested by Buffalo police.

The driver told police he was driving three fares at 3:15 a.m. Saturday at Liddell and Brier streets, just north of Broadway on the East Side, when the men grabbed him by the neck and began going through his pockets to find his wallet.

The men fled but were later captured one block away on Koons Avenue. Ferry-Fillmore District Officer Jason K. Schnelle arrested Robby Burnett, 21, of Newburgh Street; Emanuel Mitchell, 19, no address given; and Dequan Simmons, 19, no address given. They are charged with attempted robbery and strangulation.
