Russell Tucker, Korean War veteran, active in community

May 10, 1931 - March 27, 2015

Russell J. Tucker Sr., of Elma, a Korean War veteran and retired warehouse supervisor at Loblaws grocery, died in South Buffalo on Friday. He was 83.

A graduate of Seneca Vocational High School in Buffalo, Mr. Tucker’s career included two years in the Army, serving as staff sergeant in the Korean War.

He returned home to work for the Loblaws grocery store chain, which was bought by the Peter J. Schmitt Co. He also worked for the Lender’s Bagel company. He retired in 1995 after a 39-year career.

He was fond of golf and serving the community as a member of the Spring Brook Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Spring Brook and the East Aurora American Legion Post 362.

His wife, the former Eva Rieman, died in 2005.

Survivors include a sister, Joan Daigler; a brother, Richard; three daughters, Linda Criss, Eva Cunningham and Lisa Tucker; a son “Bo” Russell Tucker; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 6441 Seneca Street, Springbrook.
