LOCKPORT – Catching Dreams, LLC, a Niagara County-based charter boat company dedicated to creating memorable fishing experiences for veterans, is partnering with S.E.R.V. Niagara to offer free private fishing charters to 10 military veterans.
The six-hour adventure for the veteran and a guest will include sailing on Lake Erie or the Niagara River, with snacks and beverages included. All fishing equipment will be provided. Charter Capt. Ned Librock, founder of Catching Dreams, will present each veteran with photos and a baseball cap as mementos.
S.E.R.V. founder and president Jennifer O. D’Andrea-Terreri said, “It’s no secret that fishing and being on the water is calming and healing. Fishing therapy, also known as piscatorial therapy or angling therapy, reduces stress, relieves anxiety, improves focus and is highly recommended as an alternative to medicine, all beneficial to individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries and memory loss.”
S.E.R.V. stands for Supporting, Empowering, Respecting Veterans and Their Families.
Veterans and individuals submitting an entry on behalf of a veteran should send a letter of interest explaining why he or she would benefit from this program to S.E.R.V. Niagara, Attn: Catching Dreams Contest, 80 Park Ave., Lockport, NY 14094 or email to Info@servniagara.org. Submission deadline is April 15 and winners will be announced May 1.
