The Toronto Blue Jays claimed 2014 International League home run champion Andy Wilkins from the Chicago White Sox organization and optioned him to the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday.
Wilkins, 26, hit 30 home runs to lead the IL and tied for the lead with 85 RBIs. He also had 38 doubles, second in the league behind Kevin Pillar of the Herd. Wilkins had a .558 slugging percentage and batted .293.
Wilkins appeared in 14 games for the White Sox this spring and batted .333 with six RBIs.
Sunday in Bradenton, Fla., left-hander Andrew Albers and three Bisons relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as Buffalo defeated Indianapolis, 6-0.
Albers pitched four innings for the win before handing it over to the bullpen. He allowed three hits and no walks while striking out two. Hitless relief included two innings each from Chad Jenkins, Scott Barnes and Preston Guilet. Kevin Nolan and Jake Fox each hit home runs for the Herd (4-4-1).
