Barbara Guida former Clarence Town Board member

Barbara Guida of Clarence, a former member of the Clarence Town Board whose family founded John & Mary’s restaurants, died Friday in Hospice care after a long battle with cancer. She was 67.

Mrs. Guida worked at several restaurant locations before she retired from the business and served on the Clarence Town Board.

She became the first woman president of the Rotary Club of Clarence. She also served two terms as Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 7090, which included Western New York and Southern Ontario.

Her commitment to the organization was recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow award.

As a Clarence councilwoman, she worked to start up the town website, adopt the Gold Star Veteran’s Tax Exemption, develop bike paths and work as a board liaison with the planning board, assessor, fire companies and the municipal review committee.

The former Barbara Schiandra is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Robert and John; and four grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 8500 Main St., Clarence.
