NOWAK, Chester L.

NOWAK - Chester L. Of Venice, FL, an Air Force Pilot and Sales Engineer prior to retirement and resident of the area since 1988 from Colorado, died Monday, March 23, 2015. He was 91. Maj. (Ret) Nowak was born October 23, 1923, in Lackawanna, NY and came to Venice from Denver, CO, where he was a Sales Engineer after serving in the Army and Air Force for over 23. He was mobilized with New York National Guard in 1940. Graduating from flight training in 1944, he went on to accumulate over 4000 flight hours. He flew over 100 hours in support of the Berlin Airlift in 1948. While a member of the Venice Golf and Country Club, he enjoyed his many rounds of golf and his weekly card games. He leaves his two sons Michael (Patty) of San Antonio, TX, Richard (Susan) of Temecula, CA; a daughter Susan Matthews (Ken) of Osprey, FL; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Nowak (nee Harrison). Funeral Rites will be held May 1 at 11 AM at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
