Canisius (2-7, 2-1 MAAC) came from three goals down in the fourth quarter and defeated Siena, 10-9, on an overtime goal by Vince Gravino. It was the first regular season win over the Saints since 2008. Siena is the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion.
The winning goal came after Canisius won the faceoff to start the overtime. After a timeout, sophomore Jeff Edwards dodged from behind the goal and found Gravino.
“Alex Govenettio had a great game with 14 saves and when we needed a big stop, he was there for us,” Canisius coach Randy Mearns said. “Then we get the ball in overtime and Vince does a great job for the win. This victory feels good, but we have to continue to get better to achieve our goals this season.”
Seven different players scored for the Griffs. Gravino, Tim Edwards and Cody Gould had two goals each. Christopher Kane, Austin Romantic, Billy Jacobbi (Williamsville South) and Nick Tuttle also scored for Canisius while Jeff Edwards had three assists.
Siena (4-5, 1-2 MAAC) led, 5-3, at the half and 7-4 after three periods.
