3 Griffs icers sign contracts

Canisius College goaltender Keegan Asmundson has signed to play with the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League, an affiliate of the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins of the NHL and the Hershey Bears and Providence Bruins of the AHL.

Two other Griffs, defensemen Cody Freeman and Chris Rumble, signed with the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL. Rumble gave up his final year of college eligibility to join the IceMen.

Asmundsen received the Atlantic Hockey Goaltending Trophy and was a second-team all-conference selection. He set Canisius career records for goals-against average (2.08) and save percentage (.930) and single season records in 2014-15 for goals-against (1.96) and save percentage (.930).

He is the second Griff to sign a professional contract after the end of the season. Captain Doug Jessey previously signed with the Indy Fuel.
