WARSAW – A prisoner in the Wyoming County Jail died Friday despite efforts to save him.
An autopsy should determine the cause of death for Spencer C. Johns, 26, of Castile, who had arrived in the jail at around noon on Wednesday from the county’s Treatment Court.
Jail officers used CPR and a defibrillator to try to restart Johns’ heart at 3:25 p.m. Friday, Sheriff Gregory Rudolph said in a news release announcing the death.
Johns was pronounced dead at the Wyoming County Community Hospital at 4:10 p.m.
The death is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming County Coroner Michael Smith. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office will handle the autopsy.
