Poloncarz to sign law restricting e-cigarettes

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz will sign Friday a local law regulating the use of e-cigarettes in public places.

The County Legislature in February approved a local law that bans the use of electronic cigarettes and vaping devices at all public indoor facilities, except in establishments where the devices and their accoutrements are either being sold to or sampled by prospective users.

The law, passed with bipartisan support, restricts their use at public indoor venues, such as in bars, restaurants, office buildings and shopping centers.

Joining him in the ceremony will be Erie County Legislator Peter Savage, Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein, and representatives from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Asthma Coalition of Erie County, American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, American Lung Association, Amherst Tobacco-Free Steering Committee, and the Erie-Niagara Tobacco-Free Coalition.
