Drag racing, street racing are two different things
A recent News story confused an illegal activity – street racing – with a legitimate, all-American sport that has thousands of fans and participants in Western New York – drag racing.
Drag racing is a popular motorsport that is open to racers as young as 8 years old (junior dragsters.) A race is run at a dedicated racing venue under strict rules and safety regulations, with emergency personnel in attendance. Every effort is made to provide a safe environment for racers and fans alike.
Street racing is an illegal and dangerous activity that is officially referred to as an “unauthorized speed contest.”
Please stop using the terms street racing and drag racing interchangeably. Drag racing is not illegal. Street racing is not drag racing.
