Former Buffalo drug dealer indicted for cocaine trafficking

Archie Phillips, 43, a former Buffalo resident now living in the Houston area, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Buffalo this week for allegedly conspiring with others to distribute cocaine in the Buffalo area, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., said Friday.

Phillips was arrested by federal authorities in Houston Thursday and will be returned to Buffalo to face a federal detention hearing on April 6, Hochul said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank T. Pimentel said Phillips plotted to traffic in cocaine throughout the Western New York area from early 2012 until at least April 3, 2013. The prosecutor said Phillips served a federal prison term of about four years on an earlier drug conviction in Buffalo more than a decade ago.

Hochul and Pimentel said that if convicted of the new conspiracy indictment, Phillips faces a possible life term.
