Ex-Griff Samuels signs with Rhinos

Former Canisius College forward Asani Samuels has signed a contract to play professional soccer with the Rochester Rhinos.

Samuels was an All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection in 2015, setting career highs with eight goals, three assists and 19 points. He was fourth in the MAAC in goals and points, and his four game-winning goals led the conference. Samuels helped the Golden Griffins to a 9-6-3 record last fall. He had 16 goals in his career at Canisius.

“Asani has good size and speed,” said Rochester head coach Bob Lilley. “He has the ability to either play up top or out wide and can be a real handful for defenders. He will challenge defenders with his size as he is good in the air.” The Rhinos play in the United Soccer League, and their home games are in Sahlen’s Stadium. They open the season on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls II.
