Archibald M. Henderson, insurance agent, veteran

June 17, 1930 – March 22, 2015

Archibald “Archie” M. Henderson, a Marine veteran and retired insurance agent, died Sunday at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a long illness. He was 84.

A lifelong Buffalo-area resident, he graduated from Riverside High School in 1947 and attended a technical school for the metal trade. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.

Mr. Henderson worked as an insurance agent for Prudential Life Insurance. He later rose to the position of sales manager before retiring in 1991.

He was a skilled craftsman who built boats up to four feet, authentic to scale and able to sail. Among his creations was a replica of a motor torpedo boat PT-109.

A longtime member of Hiram Masons Lodge, he was a third-degree Scottish rite mason. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 60 years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and trapshooting.

After retirement, he worked part time at Audubon Golf Club in Amherst, where he organized senior groups.

His wife of 39 years, the former Donna Taylor, died in 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Bill and Greg; two daughters, Heather Hartman and Laurie Bosch; a sister, Shirley Friedrich; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his close companion, Doris Mings.

A private family memorial service will be held.
