Heavy snow moves into metro Buffalo

Heavy snow has replaced the fog that blanketed metro Buffalo early Thursday, signalling the arrival of a low-pressure system bringing more moisture.

Though nothing’s sticking on the ground at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, where the National Weather Service has its offices, there’s some snow cover in Niagara County and in the Southtowns, said meteorologist Shawn Smith. Total accumulations Thursday could reach three inches on grassy surfaces.

Temperatures that were in the upper 30s Thursday morning already have dropped a few degrees and will continue to do so, falling to the upper 20s Thursday night, Smith said.
