Wheatfield clerk victimized by quick change artist

WHEATFIELD – The owner of a Subway Restaurant at 2260 Niagara Falls Boulevard told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies that one of his clerks was the victim of scam artist over the weekend.

An unknown man asked for change several times, moving money around to confuse the cashier, just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The quick change artist bought a cookie and then made off with about $62.

The female employee told owner she felt something wasn’t right after the man left. A check of the cash register revealed the money had been taken.

Video surveillance was provided to deputies. The man was described as a black male, approximately 50 to 55 years old. He was wearing a black shirt, jeans and a New York Yankees baseball cap.
