The second round of the 43North business plan competition is getting ready to launch.
Details of this year’s contest will be revealed at a news conference Wednesday morning. Last year’s contest attracted nearly 7,000 entries from around the world, and organizers are hoping to build on the buzz generated by the inaugural competition.
Organizers have said they want to expand 43North’s focus to include companies that are just starting out and outreach efforts to students to encourage them to think about starting their own businesses. They also have been looking at offering prizes to more companies than the 11 firms that received cash awards last year.
This year’s contest also will have new leadership, under Amherst native John Gavigan, who replaced Andrew J. Pulkrabek as 43North’s executive director early this year.
