Middleport man avoids jail in metal thefts

LOCKPORT – A man who stole $16,593.99 worth of metal objects from A Superior Concrete in Royalton in 2011 was placed on five years’ probation Wednesday by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon.

Daniel E. Wells, 26, of State Street, Middleport, had pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny and must make full restitution. The thefts occurred during a period of two months while Wells was working at the concrete company.

In another scrapping case, Daniel L. Pelfrey, 39, of 19th Street, Niagara Falls, was sentenced to 60 days in jail, three years’ probation and $5,333 in restitution. Pelfrey pleaded guilty to petit larceny in connection with the theft of property from a deceased woman’s Niagara Falls home in November and December 2013. Pelfrey’s girlfriend, Janelle Alfiere, 34, and her brother Henri J. Alfiere, 32, also took part in the crimes and pleaded guilty to petit larceny. Henri Alfiere was sentenced to a year in jail; Janelle Alfiere was placed on probation.
