Van Halen coming to Darien Lake

Darien Lake Performing Arts Center is one of the summer tour stops for the legendary hard rock band Van Halen.

The Aug. 25 date in Darien Center comes just past the halfway point in a 39-date North American tour that begins July 5 in Seattle and concludes Oct. 2 in Los Angeles.

The group next week also will be giving its first major TV performances since original singer David Lee Roth rejoined the lineup in 2006. They will appear in concert on Hollywood Boulevard on Monday and next Tuesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and will appear April 2 on “Ellen.”

The TV appearances accompany the release next Tuesday of a new live album – their first to feature Roth – entitled “Tokyo Dome Live in Concert.” The group recorded the 23-song set in Japan in 2013.

The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band will open for all the Van Halen tour dates. The Darien Center show is second concert after a 10-day break in the middle of the tour.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public April 4.
