March 24, 1985: Watson's, famed for sponge candy and 'Delaware' triple-deckers

For decades, Watson’s was known around Kenmore as a great lunch counter that also sold candy.

Thirty years ago, Watson’s Restaurant & Candies was celebrating its 40th Easter in the Delaware Avenue store front now occupied by the Plaka Restaurant.

First known for the “Delaware” triple-decker sandwich and hot fudge sundaes, Watson’s quickly became known for sponge candy and chocolates as well.

And even after the last meatloaf platter was served at Watson’s, the name lives on with green and gold boxes of chocolate still enjoyed by Buffalonians everywhere.
