Lights off at Niagara Falls on Saturday for ‘Earth Hour’

NIAGARA FALLS – The lights on Niagara Falls will be shut off for an hour on Saturday night as part the World Wildlife Fund’s “Earth Hour” initiative, the Niagara Falls Illumination Board announced.

To help raise awareness and support for action on the issue of climate change, the Falls will participate in the symbolic global event by turning off the illumination from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Earth Hour event started as a single event in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and has since reached millions in more than 7,000 cities in 120 countries and territories, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
