Front page March 24, 1915: Buffalo officers search here for killer of Elmira police chief

"Police Inspector John Martin this morning summoned every plain clothes man in the city to his office and sent them searching the city for 'Jack' Cramer, who is wanted for the murder of Police Chief John J. Finnell and Detective-Sergeant Charles Gradwell of the Elmira police department, who were shot yesterday afternoon in Elmira. Inspector Martin was informed by telephone this morning that a reward of $2,000 would be paid for the capture of Cramer."

News of the Elmira slaying was reported on the previous day's front page.
