Beverly’s haul: Gerald Beverly, a 6-foot-7 senior at Daemen College, has been the recipient of numerous postseason honors after the Wildcats captured the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 national title in men’s basketball.

Beverly, a Rochester native, was a first-team selection on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association East Region Men’s Basketball team and an honorable mention All-America pick by the same organization. He was a second-team all-district selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and a third-team All-American as compiled by Basketball Times.

Additionally, Beverly was voted the East Coast Conference defensive player of the year and first-team all-league after averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds and 3.6 assists.

Daemen’s men’s and women’s teams won U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 national championships this season. The Wildcats are participating in the USCAA while progressing through the NCAA Division II membership process.

Bona golf set: St. Bonaventure’s Department of Athletics has scheduled its annual Golf with the Bonnies tournaments in Olean and Rochester in June. One will be held at Bartlett Country Club on Friday, June 5 and serve as the unofficial start of Alumni Reunion Weekend. The Rochester-area event will take place on Friday, June 19, at Eagle Vale Golf Club in Fairport.

The Bartlett tournament will have a 11 a.m. with a shotgun start in a four-player scramble format. The cost is $100 per person, or $75 for Bartlett Country Club members, and all players will receive a box lunch on the course and hors d’oeuvres following the round. The outing at Eagle Vale will begin at 1 p.m. with shotgun start and a four-player scramble format. Dinner will follow at approximately 6 p.m. The cost is also $125 per person and includes lunch and the buffet dinner. Anyone wishing to attend just the family-friendly dinner can do so for $25. Proceeds will benefit the Bonnies Athletic Fund.

Registration for both tournaments is now open on or On-line registration is encouraged. Businesses or individuals who are willing to support Golf With The Bonnies as a hole sponsor or a prize sponsor should contact Seth Johnson, director of marketing and promotions, at or by calling 375-2382.

Spartans honored: D’Youville softball players Kalie McHenry (Sacred Heart) and Lydia Monin (Tapestry Charter), both juniors, received weekly honors from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. McHenry, who struck out 28 batters in winning three of four starts was named AMCC Pitcher of the Week. Monin who is batting . 474 with a .632 slugging percentage was nemd AMCC Player of the Week.
