Yarn recalled for choking hazard

North Carolina-based Spinrite Yarns has issued a recall of several types of Bernat brand “Tizzy” style yarn because of a possible strangulation hazard. The yarn, once crocheted or knitted into a finished product, can unravel or snag to form a loop, which can pose an entanglement hazard to children and pets.

The affected yarn was sold in the following colors and UPC codes: Marshmallow White, 057355350380; Playtime Denim, 057355375970; Blue Skies, 057355350397; Sweet Green Pea, 057355350403; Pixie Purple, 057355350410; Red Riding Hood, 057355375987; Posey Pink, 057355350427; Dandelion Yellow, 057355350434; Playtime, 057355366336; Creamsicle, 057355350441 and Day Dream, 057355355521.

About 620,000 skeins of the yarn were sold at Michael’s, Jo-Ann Fabrics and other craft stores across the United States. No injuries have been reported but there have been two reports of children becoming entangled.

Consumers should stop using the yarn or the finished products incorporating the yarn and contact Bernat for a full refund. For more information, call 1-844-418-7973 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or visit and click the “voluntary recall” button at the top of the page.
