Two women admit wire fraud

Two women from Latvia pleaded guilty to wire fraud Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie G. Foschio.

Janis Tonis, 32, and Veronika Krutova, 26, were accused of using the letterhead of victim businesses to request false wire transfers from victim financial institutions.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth R. Moellering said the defendants also defrauded the online buyers of motor vehicles by posting cars for sale online and then disappearing with the money without ever delivering a vehicle.

Their guilty pleas are the result of an investigation by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
