DALLAS -- Tyler Ennis and Jerry D'Amigo were absent from the Sabres' pregame skate today in American Airlines Center. D'Amigo is going for an MRI of his face, battered by Craig Smith's stick Saturday in Nashville, and Tim Schaller has been recalled from Rochester to replace him.
Ennis' absence is normally no biggie since he has taken several gameday skates off for maintenance of undisclosed nagging ailments. But coach Ted Nolan revealed he found out about a half-hour after the skate that the team's leading scorer woke up ill today .
"We sent him back to the hotel. Hopefully he'll be ready to go tonight," Nolan said.
For those harboring thoughts an Ennis-less team would facilitate another loss in the "race" with the Arizona Coyotes, Nolan said he expected Ennis to play and hoped he would be like Nicolas Deslauriers was last month in Columbus. The rugged winger was sick and skipped the morning skate but they pumped him with fluids and he played in the game.
Anders Lindback is back in goal tonight, getting a chance to start against his old team. Nolan said Matt Hackett was given consideration to start after his 40-save showing Saturday against the Predators but his surgically repaired knee was a little sore so the Sabres are giving him more time off.
