Buffalo police could use the help of interpreters
I read with interest about the communication problem our fine Buffalo policemen are having with the rash of burglaries in the new Burmese community within Buffalo. I realize the disadvantage in not understanding someone’s explanations, mingled with the agitation of losing a life’s savings.
When I accompany refugees to their hospital appointments, the doctors always ask if an interpreter is needed. If one is, there is a number dialed on the phone and within five minutes (any time of day or night) there is an interpreter (any language) on the line to translate for both doctor and patient. Simple solution! Policemen, find that magic number. Communication is the key.
