Lancaster man charged with DWI after hitting guide rail

MACHIAS – A Lancaster motorist who fled the scene of an accident in the Cattaraugus County Town of Machias has been charged with driving while intoxicated, State Police reported.

Troopers were dispatched at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to Route 16, where a vehicle had hit a guide rail. The vehicle was found disabled, and empty, not far from where the crash occurred, troopers reported.

A short time later, troopers located Ronald S. Mornelli, 53. He was charged with DWI – troopers said he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 percent – and leaving the scene of an accident.

Mornelli was issued tickets to appear in Machias Town Court at a later date.
