LOCKPORT – The Lockport-based Grigg-Lewis Foundation, which made its largest donation ever, $4 million, to the construction of Lockport’s Cornerstone Arena, was honored last week when the Common Council voted to change the name of the street in front of the rink to Grigg-Lewis Way.
The $14 million arena, which opened last fall, is at Chestnut and Market streets. The Council changed the name of one block of Chestnut Street, between Market and Charles streets.
Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey said the alteration won’t inconvenience anyone, because the arena is the only building with an address in that block.
The twin-rink complex was built by a not-for-profit corporation headed by John J. Ottaviano, the city’s corporation counsel.
