Troop’s first Eagle Scout lauded at Buffalo ceremony

St. Martin de Porres Boy Scout Troop #139 honored its first Eagle Scout on Saturday.

A ceremony was held for Justin Becton, 18, at SS. Columba-Brigid Catholic Church, 75 Hickory St.

Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown was the keynote speaker. Other officials attended along with members of St. Martin de Porres Parish.

Justin was featured last year in a Buffalo News article about his efforts to offer free haircuts to military veterans to earn Eagle Scout status. The Western New York Maritime Charter School senior is a member of ROTC and participates in sports, including baseball and swimming.

One of Justin’s memorable scouting duties was to open an FBI covention with the Pledge of Allegiance.
