Time running out to vote for best state parks

This is the last full week to cast your vote in the 2015 USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards for best state parks in the country.

New York’s Letchworth and Watkins Glen state parks are high on the list of candidates so far, with Letchworth ranked No. 2 as of Friday and Watkins Glen in third place.

The 20 nominees were chosen by USA Today, with New York, California and Florida the only states with more than one park nominated. Letchworth, “the Grand Canyon of the East,” is a popular all-season park, while Watkins Glen is the most visited park in the Finger Lakes Region.

Other nominees include Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, Antelope Island in Utah, Assateague in Maryland, Stone Mountain in North Carolina and Weeki Watchee Springs in Florida. The No. 1 vote getter as of Friday was Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, or the “Porkies,” along Lake Superior in Michigan.

Voting continues through March 30 at 10best.com/awards/travel/best-state-park/.
