After The Buzzer: West Virginia 68, UB 62

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Quick highlights from the University at Buffalo's dramatic loss to West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament ...

What it means: UB's first March Madness experience ended with a thrilling comeback attempt that fell just short. West Virginia took an early 13-point lead. UB tied it with 2:40 to go but couldn't score again. Friday was the final college game for UB seniors Will Regan and Xavier Ford.

UB player of the game: Ford finished his college career with a flourish. He scored nine points -- a three-point shot, a three-point play, a three-point shot -- in a 2:57 span to tie the game at 62. He led the Bulls with 16 points.

WVU player of the game: Sophomore forward Devin Williams posted team-highs with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Turnover trouble: The Bulls committed 17 turnovers in their two MAC tournament games. They had that many Friday afternoon, 12 in the first half alone.

And free-throw woes: The Bulls made only six of their 12 free-throw attempts in the first half. They converted 1o 0f 12 in the second half. Ford made a mammoth foul shot to complete a three-point play that cut the Mountaineers' lead to 60-59 with 3:28 left.

Halftime rally: The Mountaineers led throughout the first half and by as many as 13 points three times. They were up at the break, 36-26. But the Bulls scored the first seven points of the second half to set a different tone.

Moss: MAC player of the year Justin Moss, scoreless for nearly the first 10 minutes, finished with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. He made only three of his six shots from the floor.

All-WNY matchup: Regan (Nichols) and West Virginia junior guard Jaysean Paige (Jamestown) are former All-Western New York players. Regan fouled out of his final game with two points, one rebound and one assist. Paige had three points, one rebound and one steal.
