Sunset Bay no longer in danger of flooding, official says

SUNSET BAY – The flood danger for the Sunset Bay area passed at about 5 p.m. on Friday, officials said.

Steve D’Angelo, town of Hanover highway superintendent, said that he had been monitoring Cattaraugus Creek and the smaller creeks that flow into it for ice and water problems.

He said that water and an ice jam passed through the creek areas and flowed out toward Lake Erie without posing a flood danger.

D’Angelo said the slow thawing was a benefit to the area and he believes that the danger to the area is over for this season.
