Mikhail Grigorenko is back in Buffalo. The Sabres recalled the center Friday afternoon while sending forward Tim Schaller and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel back to Rochester.
The demotion of Ruhwedel was expected because he was up on an emergency recall and defenseman Andrej Meszaros will return from injury Friday night against New Jersey. Grigorenko's appearance is surprising.
Sabres coach Ted Nolan spoke unkindly of the center's effort following a one-game callup March 6. Grigorenko played 13:42 with one shot and a minus-1 rating against Ottawa.
Grigorenko has played 13 games with the Sabres this season, recording one goal and one assist. He has 12 goals and 33 points in 40 games with Rochester.
Schaller had one goal and one assist in 13 games with Buffalo. Ruhwedel had one assist in two games.
